Who is Joe Webb?

The most recent talk out of Vikings training camp has been that Sage Rosenfels will either be traded or cut because Brad Childress and the Vikings have high hopes for their 6th round draft project, Joe Webb.  But who is Joe Webb?

Mr. Webb played his college ball for his hometown university University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Webb redshirted his first season in 2005 and didn't see game action until 11th game of the 2006 season before finishing the final two games as the starting QB for the Blazers.  In 2007 he was moved to the WR position where he saw extensive action before finishing his final two years as a QB once again.  For his career, Webb registered 5,771 passing yards and 2,774 rushing yards and was consistently a top 15 QB in yardage production over his final two seasons.  Despite the impressive numbers he racked up, Webb was dubbed a WR prospect in the draft and was not invited to the NFL Draft Combine.  At UAB's pro-day, the numbers he put up in Bench Press, Vertical, and Long Jump would have all been the best of any WR at the combine.

While Joe Webb was drafted as a WR project by the Vikings in the 6th round this past offseason, Head Coach Brad Childress has decided they will use him exclusively at QB.  Perhaps we are looking at the QB of the future for the Vikings as he looks to be an upgraded version of Tarvaris Jackson.  Either way there has been a lot of buzz around this physical specimen.
