I remember watching the Packers select Justin Harrell with the 16th overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft and being very skeptical. Obviously it is easy for a fan to question decisions made by the front office because you are not granted the same information they have at their disposal but I did not see the decision to draft a guy coming off two torn biceps as a smart one. Unfortunately I was right on this one.
Justin Harrell has been a bust at best since he joined the Packers, showing up for his first camp as a rookie overweight and out of shape. Along with the ruptured biceps, he has also battled chronic back pain (two surgeries) and hip problems as well. With all that, somewhat, behind him, Harrell seems to have one more shot to prove why he was chosen before eventual Pro Bowl safeties Michael Griffin, Brandon Meriweather, and linebacker Jon Beason, who were all chosen within the next 9 picks.
Another reason Harrell has a chance to prove himself is a little drug called codeine. With Johnny Jolly essentially driving himself out of the NFL, the Packers have plenty of reason to hope Harrell is all he was once cracked up to be.
