To say that the last couple weeks for the Vikings has been interesting is an understatement. As the season draws near, I am starting to worry this could be a disaster season for the BitterBorderBattle team to the West. There are a lot of question marks and unanswered questions when it come to their roster.
Besides the slightly significant returns from injury to Cedric Griffin and EJ Henderson, there is plenty more to worry about.
Sidney Rice showed up to camp with a mystery hip injury and has yet to participate in any team or contact drills. In fact today he was running straight sprints on an adjacent field with minimal pain, but lateral movement was still causing him discomfort he said. Many believe he is also looking to get a new contract and that could be weighing in on his decision to avoid camp thus far.
Speaking of contracts, it has been going around lately that Adrian Peterson is looking for a new contract as well. Although AP has been a regular (by Vikings standards) in practice, anytime players concern themselves with a contract situation it can be very distracting not only to themselves but the team as well.
Percy Harvin returned to practice today for the first time in two weeks due to the death of his grandmother and migraine headaches. Harvin flashed some superstar last season, but missing time will only slow his development.
The only consistency in Minnesota this training camp has been inconsistency and this could make for a slow start for the Vikings, who I feel could easily be 3-2 or 2-3 by the time they play their friendly BitterBorderBattle foes in Week 7. Do I think the Vikings have any chance to finish with a record of 8-8 or worse this season? Not a chance, but if things do not come together as well as they did last season, I can definitely see a possible 9-7 or 10-6 season.
This is all without even mentioning Brett Favre's name, but you know with me, that won't last long. I just wanted to give everyone a twinkle of hope and friendly reminder that last year he let the Vikings know on Tuesday after their first preseason game that he would be playing, so be ready for some Favre Watch action tomorrow! If Favre does return, he gives the Vikings a chance to win 12 or 13 games but I just cannot believe they will do that without him at QB.
Man I can't wait for some football!
